Surely we understand how crazy 2020 has been thus far. From the sudden and tragic death of Kobe to the pandemic claiming thousands of lives and causing us to be confined to our homes for months, the fires in Australia, the weird swarm of bees, the perpetual unnecessary killing of unarmed black men to the attack of the Saharan dust on the Caribbean, 2020 has been wild thus far. CNN has a review of the first half of 2020, it’s wild! What a time to be alive!
So what about the plans we all vehemently set for the year. (If you missed my post about planning for 2020, I’ve linked it here). This was supposed to be the year of the bounty. I hope you didn’t just toss the plans to the side waiting for take 2 in 2021. Although the setback can be considered major, quarantine should have helped us to put things into perspective. If you didn’t accomplish as much as you hoped, all is not lost! I assure you it’s ok. We still have a few more months to make things right.
Here’s how you can get back on track! Check out my 5 simple tips to help you in achieving your goals in the second half of 2020.
1. Assess what you’ve achieved thus far.
Surely, you would have accomplished a goal or two… or three. It may not seem significant in the scheme of the 500 goals you hoped to achieve but you accomplished something right? I hope you said yes. So here’s what you can do. Take an inventory of what you’ve done so far and be proud of your accomplishments.
2. What’s next?
So what’s next? Considering the circumstances, you know the second wave and all, what are some other attainable goals? Think about what you want to:
- make more time for;
- spend less time on;
- learn;
- improve;
- make/create; and
- do.
*By simply prioritizing, you can certainly accomplish more. Consider spending less time on what doesn’t benefit or feed you. Instead, make time for improving your skills, creating/making, or working on a project.
3. Set new goals.
Maybe it’s just not practical to achieve some of the goals you set. Reconsider. Tweak your original goals a bit or set new goals. It’s ok. Don’t take yourself out of the game. What can you do with the resources that you currently have? Maybe you need to just extend the deadline you initially planned on.
4. Put your back into it.
Give it your best shot! The half-assed effort may bring you across the finish line -eventually- but who wants to fall short? We’ve only got a few months left in the year so do your best to make them count. Your 2021 depends on it. You don’t want to be the guy/girl who can’t make the moves in 2021 because you didn’t set yourself up properly in 2020. The fact is we can’t just forget that 2020 ever happened. Next year, you want to look back and say, despite the hurdles, I did such things.
5. Keep your eyes on the prize!
Stay focused. Whatever you do, just don’t give up. I like writing down my goals because seeing things make them so real to me. Try it! Write down your goals and how you plan to get there. Remind yourself each day that this is what you want to do. Be sure to check out my downloadable template (M Y G O A L S) if you’d like to write down your plans for the 2nd half of 2020. It will assist you in visualizing and putting things into perspective.
That’s all I’ve got for now. I trust that these simple tips will be useful for achieving your goals in the second half of 2020.
Until next time, keep smashing your goals! 2020 is almost over!
This is an excellent post. I really enjoyed the swift kick in the butt it gave and the reminder that all is not lost. Thanks much.
Great post. Despite the the craziness of the year I’ve still managed to meet a lot of my goals doing exactly what you outlined.
